What brought MUMSTER here to this point at the Fair Fashion Festival?
After I became mother at a really young age, I soon felt that I had to set the right example. After seeing the documentary The True Cost I was personally touched seeing young children in such a horrible environment for the cheap clothes I was buying for my son every time. I wanted to do something to make a change. It all started with the vlogging by mobile phone on a selfie-stick feeling super awkward, ended up with speaking in front of large camera’s in collaboration with the Dutch Sustainable Fashionweek and other organisations, organising conscious inspiration events and art-design projects in collaboration with international initiatives and artists. How did that happen so fast? What is it, that thing that gets me so motivated to make a change? During my journey I’ve met and worked with a lot of different inspiring people: Entrepreneurs, designers, founders of clothing stores, conscious fashion organisations, sustainable schooling programs, bloggers and vloggers, they all had one thing in common: contributing to society in their own way and they all we’re inspiring to me, and other people, in their own way.
What did I learn from these different groups? And how can we use my personal knowledge with all of our knowledge together, about sustainability received through speakers, events, books, influencers, conscious experiences, ideas and each other?
One of the most important things I’ve learnt, is that we can make huge impact by changing the little things. So I will give some tips that helped me to get and live conscious and hopefully help you how to follow your passion and combine it in your own way to contribute to society in your own way. Based on my desk- and field research. I will share knowledge about what you need to know about conscious fashion right now and some practical tips to get started the moment you leave the lecture and start a positive chain of change.
